Say It in Nepali on the Trail

Namaste Nepali is the app we made so you arrive with the first words you will need: greetings, introducing yourself, asking questions, shopping, talking about family. Short lessons that make you say each phrase, not just recognise it. Free, on your phone or laptop.

How it works

Made to Stay With You

01Recognise, then build, then recall

A word starts as a choice: hear it, pick the meaning. Next you build it from tiles or fill the gap in a sentence. Last comes recall, with no hints at all: the English, and you say the Nepali before you check.

02Hear every word

All 210 words and phrases have audio. After every answer the app plays the right line, so you hear what you just read or built.

03Words come back when they are due

Reviews bring a word back after a day, then a few days, then longer. Mark one hard and it returns sooner. Finish a set and you can lock it in: repeat the words until you know every one.

04Roman letters or Devanagari

Start in the Roman spelling and switch to the Nepali script whenever you are ready. The app installs on your phone like any other, so a lesson fits a bus ride or a teahouse evening.

Questions

Before You Start

Is it free?
Yes. The whole course is free, with no trial and no payment details.
What do I need to start?
A Google account. You sign in with it and your progress is saved, so you can pick up on another device.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone or a laptop, and on a phone you can add it to your home screen like an app.
Do I have to learn the Nepali script?
No. Every word is written in Roman letters too. Devanagari is there when you want it, and you can switch between them at any time.
Do I need to book a trek to use it?
No. Anyone can learn. If you do trek with us, you will have someone to practise with.

From the app to the trail

Then Come and Use It

The phrases in the course are the ones you will need with your guide, in the teahouses and in the villages along the way. When you are ready to plan the trek itself, we would love to hear what you have in mind.
